A brief presentation of the profile of the school

The school, 4th Primary School of Polichni was established in 1966in the wider area of Polichni,  called Anthokipoi and itwas housed in a private area until 1974, when the present building was inaugurated.

According to our status we are a school that provideshigh quality education services to students of low income and migration origin. The environment of the school is conducive to learning with many classrooms, a libray, a gym, a theatre room, a computer room and a basketball court. Moreover, there are 3 classrooms for Special Education teachers and and refugee reception classes.

Our highly qualified primary school teachers along with 2 shadow teachers, 2 Special Education teachers, a Refugee Reception Class teacher, a Music teacher, a Drama teacher, an Arts teacher, 3 Physical Education teachers, 2 English teachers , a German teacher and an IT teacher provide students a wide range of opportunities to develop multiple skills, including soft skills and essential life skills. The methods used are tailored to the students’ needs and differentiated teaching is applied when needed. Also multiple intelligences are taken into consideration during the design of the curriculum and the supplementary content creation so that all students can feel included.

 

Furthermore various programmes are implemented according to levels such as enviromental education, with topics such as climate change, renewable sources of energy, maintenace of historical and archaelogigal sites, natural habitats, pollution and so on and so forth. Health Education with topics ranging from healthy nutrition, exercise, prevention of substances abuse, alcohol abuse and smoking to human rights, bullying, life values and conflict management. Cultural Education with a variety of topics related to customs, traditions, folk art, cultural heritage, cultural diversity, multiculturalism, democracy etc. And last but not least Career Education, with different topics such as personal and professional development, job market, soft skills, equality in working environments, entrepreneurship and so on. The aims of the implementation of these programmes are :

·         Student centered learning environments

·         Project work promoting collaboration and interaction among the members of the groups

·         Inter-curricular activities that develop the critical thinking of students

 

The school has a close connection to community collaborating with the PTA and the municipality for any problem that needs immediate tackling and also for the setting of a consistent course according to the needs and the potential of the students. The PTA is actively involved and contributes to many events, organises parties and bazaars, a school dance and school trips. There is also a tradition of collaboration with the municipality for events such as rubbish collection, celebration of Earth Day and sports events.

 

The vicinity of the school to a big public area and two football clubs also contribute to the organisation of sports events and competitions nearby as many students of our school are athletes of football and tae kwon do.

 

Strategy of the organisation:

Creation of a new layer of young people with liberal ideas, ready to work for the welfare of the people of their country and to cooperate in the spirit of tolerance and partnership with other nations. Promotion of intercultural interaction, multicultural communication, cultural diversity, interreligious dialogue in the frame of a civil society. Forming of a global citizen identity with rights and responsibilities that have an impact on local community but also the world.

 

Object of the organization:

To frame favourable conditions for the development of creative, energetic young people with an active civil position and a responsible stance towards global problems, according to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
